The Romantics

The Romantics are a Detroit-based Rock Band that enjoyed some success on the Billboard Charts during the early 1980’s.

Their first Album was released in 1980 and it produced the single “What I like about you“. Though the song is considered to be their signature song, the single only reached #49 on the Billboard Charts in 1980.

VH-1 named the song the #97 greatest song of the Top-100 songs of the 1980’s.

The song has been featured in numerous commercials and films over the years.

Their next hit was 1983’s “Talking in your Sleep” which would peak at #3 on the Billboard Top-40 Charts.

Their last single to reach the charts was 1984’s “One in a Million” which reached #37 on the Billboard Charts.

The groups original lineup consisted of:

Wally Palmar – Guitar, Vocals
Mike Skill – Bass, Guitar
Rich Cole – Guitar, Bass
Jimmy Marinos – Drums, Vocals

The group has released 6 Studio Albums over the course of its career.

Although they have had a number of changes in band members, the group is still together and is still performing.

MTV's Teen mom...

Ok I don’t usually talk about TV. I don’t watch much, I would much rather eat chocolate, pretend to be crafty, read other peoples blogs and spy on other people via facebook… I’m nosy like that! But recently I watched season 1 of 16 and pregnant and season 1 of Teen mom on MTV via hulu.. (because we no longer have cable boo!).

Maybe it is because I was there, or what ever but this series hit me hard.. Boy #1 is turning 10 and 10 years ago I was 16 and pregnant and then 17 with a baby. Thanks to my parents I made it through. I can only hope that I never treated my parents like Farrah treats her mom.. Toxic relationship.. no more to say. Amber is a whiny little brat! Maci, good girl. I was there hi single mother hood sucks balls. Love that little boy with all your heart. Love and appreciate your parents. Love will find you and wrap you and Ryan in a big bear hug one day. I promise.

Catelynn… What to say, she and Tyler are my hero’s. I didn’t have the strength or guts to do what they did. They are some amazingly strong, wonderful, and mature people. Every so often I think about what life would have been like if I had made that sacrifice.. But I can’t imagine my life being any different ever. My boy has been my world since day one and I can’t imagine it being changed.

One thing bugged me about the show. I know it was done to show real life and dissuade teens from parenthood. But every other line seemed to be, “I see how much I’m missing” “I miss being a teen”… yadda yadda yadda.. I don’t remember ever once saying that. Maybe it was because I was umm.. not un-liked but I didn’t have many friends in high school. I had plenty of acquaintances. But not many friends.. And I was ok with that. So when people started drifting away from me, That was fine, I had more important things to do.  I had a baby shower but only 2 friends showed up.. and left pretty quickly. I understood, really who wants to be friend with a 16 year olf pregnant girl.. walking stigma! seriously. But yeah back to topic. I never remember thinking or talking about what I was missing I was all about being in the moment. I was Mama and I have loved it ever since (doesn’t mean I don’t need a nap sometimes though).

But this series made me pull out papers journals and relive my own history as a teen mom… It was sad and I cried and I laughed too. Lets say It was a ride. Parts of it were bumpy parts were smooth. But we are still chugging along and it has all been worth it.

Sending love to all the mama’s young, or older, or in between. We are all on the motherhood train together..

BTW. That last line … fucking corny, no clue were it came from… but I’ll leave it any ways! LOL

A Bunch of New Videos - Paramore, Passion Pit, Black Eyed Peas, and more

OK. I know what you’re thinking. “Black Eyed Peas?!” In reality, I only like the “Imma Be” part because that’s when BEP actually showcases their once formidable hip-hop chops. The video itself is like the year 3000 meets Transformers meets uber camp. Nonetheless, give it a look.

I also wanted to share a few video premieres from this week: Paramore “The Only Exception”, Passion Pit “Little Secrets”, and OK Go “This Too Shall Pass.” Unfortunately, some of the videos aren’t embeddable, so in those cases you have to live with the links.

Black Eyed Peas – “Imma Be Me Rocking That Body”

Paramore – “The Only Exception” – Their new album is great. Hayley is great. And the video is fairly poignant, including Valentines the fans sent in.

Passion Pit – “Little Secrets” – MTV has exclusive premiere rights to the video, so you’ll have to go there to check it out. But let me tell you that while the dude’s voice is not my cup of tea, seeing exploding paper bag heads is. And the beat is catchy as hell. Enjoy.

OK Go – “This Too Shall Pass” – The treadmills were one thing on “Here We Go Again.” But a camouflaged horn section? And a marching band?! Oh yes. This is good.

And because who doesn’t like some baby-makin’ music, here’s Usher’s new jam “Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home).” I may or may not dance in my chair at my desk EVERY time this comes on. Seriously. I pop/lock at my computer. I’ve gotten caught once. Whatever. They were jealous of my skillz.

Make your logo a recepticle of your images/brand message

So MTV have joined the ranks of corporations to make the logo a window for their images and their brand, now it looks very nice and I get this trend, it feels like a very online friendly fresh image for your brand, especially if your after that teen early twenties cynical bunch, but is this good branding or just plain lazy? well the logo needs to describe what we are so rather than coming up with a truly great new id we’ll stick with the old one and bung a load of images in that look young and fresh. Im not saying that it doesn’t look good I just think we have been here before, I still remember when the internet age dawned the rush from companies to online their brands, with the rather badly thought out ‘make it 3-d it will look more modern’, they didn’t, they looked cack. Will we look back on these and say the same.  The issue of this for me is that good branding and the craft of designing a great identity, and it is a craft that takes experience and dedication to get right, goes to waste at times and on some of the biggest names, I was taught great identities are timeless, if you want to test if what you have designed worked, print it on a useless printer in black and white, now even the great identities have developed, nothing stands still, but has some of the craft died? and are these identities a symptom of it?

Snooki Uncovered! ... Well, MORE Uncovered. Or Not.

Radaronline reports that soon we’ll may be able to see more of Snooki than some of us had hoped! But Snooki herself says it’s not true.

Photos as flattering as this one, but with less clothes… are being shopped around. Or ARE they?

RadarOnline’s report claims that some photos of the Snookster are out there, taken all by herself.

But Snooki is crying foul, tweeting: “Idk (I don’t know) where radar online comes up with their stories… weirdos.”

The song would later be parodied by Weird Al Yankovic with “I lost on Jeopardy” in 1984.

Thank God for the Internet (Yes, I said that)

If you haven’t already heard, MTV has dropped “music television” from its logo.

All I have to say, is that it’s about damn time. For years now, MTV has been nothing but horribly done dramas, and reality shows. The only music being that which was used in the background of these shows ,and having Music Awards (which honestly have lost their charm in recent years as well).

MTV debuted nearly 30 years ago, on August 1 1981, with “the first thing you saw was the MTV logo superimposed over the flag an astronaut is sticking into the moon.” (100 Greatest Moments in Rock History). The original logo looking like:

Original MTV Logo

The logo has now been replaced with photos of MTV’s stars, namely Snookie from Jersey Shore. Hey, I’m just glad they are being honest about what they truly embody today.

But I am grateful for the internet, because at least there is still one place where I can see some incredibly new, innovative music videos. Videos like Sigur Ros frontman Jón Þór Birgisson’s video as shown below:

Animotion

Animotion was a New Wave Band that enjoyed some mild success in the mid and late 1980’s.

The group released three studio albums between 1984 and 1988.

The single that put the group on the map was “Obsession” which peaked at #6 on the Billboard Top-40 Charts in 1985.

That single featured lead singers Astrid Plane (What a great name!) and Bill Wadhams.

The group released a follow-up single, “Let him Go” which reached #39 on the Billboard Top-40 Charts in 1985.

The group underwent a number of personnel changes prior to their third album being released in 1988.

The group returned to the charts with “Room to Move” which reached #9 on the Billboard Charts in 1989. That single featured new lead singers Paul Engemann, and Cynthia Rhodes.

Cynthia Rhodes is an Actress/Dancer/Singer who appeared in films such as “Dirty Dancing”, “Flashdance”, and “Staying Alive”. She is currently married to singer Richard Marx.

“Room to Move” was featured in the 1988 Comedy “My Stepmother is an Alien” starring Dan Aykroyd and Kim Basinger.

Animotion broke up in 1990.

In 2008, the band reunited with many of it’s original members including Astrid Plane and Bill Wadhams.

The group now plays occasional shows around the country.

VIDEO: "Jersey Shore's" Snooki Flips Out In A Bikini... Surprisingly Hot VIDEO...

Snooki Flips Out In A Bikini

Everybody’s favorite pint-sized Jersey Shore star, Snooki, is a girl of many talents!

Showcasing her flexibility and gymnastic skills – as well as her bikini body – Snooki posted video on her You Tube channel of her performing two cartwheels in a row.

Snooki needs to work on her finish a little more though before hoping for a perfect ten score, as she merely collapses to the ground at the end!

In true form though, never one to underestimate her charms or play down her abilities, Snooki declares at the end, “I’m a f***ing champ!”

Dressed in a teeny little blue bikini, dark shades and a baseball cap
, which she loses mid-cartwheel, Snooks looks surprisingly fit and well toned as she plays around in the back yard.

There's a new SITUATION

Grenades across the GTA are exploding with disappointment, as MTV’s Jersey Shore cast members, Pauly D and Mike ‘The Situation’, cancelled their appearance this week. Its so last minute, and I’m not sure what the reason for the rescheduling is, but nevertheless, here are the new details:

Dear Hippos, don’t be too upset and keep that tan fresh, the hair gelled and the laundry clean until March!

Ever wondered what an Oompa Loompa looks like naked?

Oompa Loompa’s are odd looking enough with clothes on, I just can’t imagine them shaking their little orange bums to some kooky Willy Wonka dance.

So when you add a head full of horsehair, a faux Coach bag and a barely constraining Ed Hardy bikini you’d wish you were floating after Violet Beauregarde the gum poppin BLUEBERRY, as to NOT witness such a sight.

Anyways, in case you’ve seen every XXX film ever concealed in the back of the video store, you may now enter the vault where the real NASTY sh*t is held. Because word on the street is that Snooki from The Jersey Shore might be gracing the dusty shelves with her Day Glo chesticles.

Radar Online says that there IS a video that Snooki took herself (really, I figured that was a give in) along with a couple of pictures that not even the most DESPERATE being would glance at.

I hope they’re PAYING their employees in GOLD BRICKS because folks over at Radar CLAIM to have seen the pics, voluntarily. I wouldn’t look at that sh*t with someone else’s EYES for a Happy Meal let alone gold bricks.

The subtle yet seductive (ha) shots include her in her bedroom, on her knees, with one hand on the ground and the other holding the rail of the bed frame. She is looking at the camera with her head tilted slightly.”

The head tilt is actually just PLEADING for someone to pay her some attention, other than The Situation after he’s realized that ever chick he’s brought home for the night is on her “period.”

SNOOKIE!

I, along with much of the population, was mesmerized for the past few months by the show “Jersey Shore”. And of course my favorite was Snookie (though Ronnie’s love of moving to the beat held a special place in my heart as well). I especially liked how no one could seem to remember her name (Snickers, Snookers, Schnook,etc.). So here is a drawing of the self-proclaimed Princess of Poughkeepsie.

Feeling the rain on her skin

Now, I was never a fan of MTV’s show The Hills, but on sick days, it seems like reruns were a requirement, along with lots of sleep and plenty of fluids. So while I wasn’t all up on L.A.’s rich kids and their scripted adventures, I did have a general idea of what was going on. Apparently, two seasons ago, Lauren Conrad left the show to pursue a career in writing. (No, seriously.)

Her first book was called L.A. Candy. Here’s a brief summary from Amazon.com:

After high school, two best friends move to Los Angeles hoping to start “a new and amazing life,” but their existence is anything but glamorous. Jane is an intern for a famous event planner and Scarlett is a freshman at U.S.C. However, things change quickly when a TV producer asks them to be in a new reality series along with Madison and Gaby, following their lives as they try to make it in L.A. After signing on, the two friends move into a posh apartment and get into the hottest clubs.

Call me crazy, but isn’t this the plot line of The Hills? So she pretty much wrote a book about her life with Whitney, Heidi and Audrina. The story wasn’t greeted with the best reviews:

The Fug Girls at New York magazine, wrote:

The bookstore salesman asked us, “Do you think she actually wrote this?” We shrugged. In truth, while we’re sure Lauren had plenty of help, it’s also not wholly unbelievable that she did much of it herself. Should she be clearing any room off her mantle for the National Book Award? No. But words are spelled correctly, sentences are properly constructed, and the plot and structure hold together. Admit it: That’s more than you expected.

Robert Kahn, at Newsday asked: “A thinly veiled roman a clef about people who are really thin?”

Moving on. LC is coming out with her second book, titled “Sweet Little Lies.”  She will be at the Barnes and Noble in the Prudential Center this Friday, Feb. 5, to promote and sign her book. The event kicks off at 7 p.m.
