Feeling the rain on her skin

Now, I was never a fan of MTV’s show The Hills, but on sick days, it seems like reruns were a requirement, along with lots of sleep and plenty of fluids. So while I wasn’t all up on L.A.’s rich kids and their scripted adventures, I did have a general idea of what was going on. Apparently, two seasons ago, Lauren Conrad left the show to pursue a career in writing. (No, seriously.)

Her first book was called L.A. Candy. Here’s a brief summary from Amazon.com:

After high school, two best friends move to Los Angeles hoping to start “a new and amazing life,” but their existence is anything but glamorous. Jane is an intern for a famous event planner and Scarlett is a freshman at U.S.C. However, things change quickly when a TV producer asks them to be in a new reality series along with Madison and Gaby, following their lives as they try to make it in L.A. After signing on, the two friends move into a posh apartment and get into the hottest clubs.

Call me crazy, but isn’t this the plot line of The Hills? So she pretty much wrote a book about her life with Whitney, Heidi and Audrina. The story wasn’t greeted with the best reviews:

The Fug Girls at New York magazine, wrote:

The bookstore salesman asked us, “Do you think she actually wrote this?” We shrugged. In truth, while we’re sure Lauren had plenty of help, it’s also not wholly unbelievable that she did much of it herself. Should she be clearing any room off her mantle for the National Book Award? No. But words are spelled correctly, sentences are properly constructed, and the plot and structure hold together. Admit it: That’s more than you expected.

Robert Kahn, at Newsday asked: “A thinly veiled roman a clef about people who are really thin?”

Moving on. LC is coming out with her second book, titled “Sweet Little Lies.”  She will be at the Barnes and Noble in the Prudential Center this Friday, Feb. 5, to promote and sign her book. The event kicks off at 7 p.m.
