Make your logo a recepticle of your images/brand message

So MTV have joined the ranks of corporations to make the logo a window for their images and their brand, now it looks very nice and I get this trend, it feels like a very online friendly fresh image for your brand, especially if your after that teen early twenties cynical bunch, but is this good branding or just plain lazy? well the logo needs to describe what we are so rather than coming up with a truly great new id we’ll stick with the old one and bung a load of images in that look young and fresh. Im not saying that it doesn’t look good I just think we have been here before, I still remember when the internet age dawned the rush from companies to online their brands, with the rather badly thought out ‘make it 3-d it will look more modern’, they didn’t, they looked cack. Will we look back on these and say the same.  The issue of this for me is that good branding and the craft of designing a great identity, and it is a craft that takes experience and dedication to get right, goes to waste at times and on some of the biggest names, I was taught great identities are timeless, if you want to test if what you have designed worked, print it on a useless printer in black and white, now even the great identities have developed, nothing stands still, but has some of the craft died? and are these identities a symptom of it?
